The sudden closure caused major traffic congestion on the highway while an expert committee assessed whether the cables needed replacement.
The official record states: "NHAI officials said the closure was a precautionary measure "to avert a potential tragedy" after finding that "two out of 20 cables reported problems" during inspection."
