On record

A newly built ₹500-crore stretch of Bengaluru's Major Arterial Road near Kadabagere developed multiple large sinkholes across a 20-metre stretch just days before its scheduled inauguration on June 27, 2026. A viral video showed gaping craters on the still-uninaugurated road, which remained under contractor control and had not yet been formally handed over to the BDA.

The official record states: "The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) dismissed the viral video as "misleading" without offering a detailed technical explanation for the sinkholes."

Visitor reviews Satire

“Went to see a road that had not been inaugurated yet and found holes in it big enough to stand in. Early access, of a sort.”
CR C. Raman · Bengaluru★★★★★
“Twenty metres of fresh tarmac with several craters in it, and an authority insisting the video of them is the misleading part.”
DM D. Mishra · Bengaluru★★★★★
“Still under the contractor, not yet handed to the BDA, already subsiding. Nobody has to own it, which is the clever bit.”

Bengaluru Public Toilets

A 2026 citizen-led audit of 142 public toilets across Bengaluru found 26% non-functional, only 6 rated "very clean," and 58% with persistent foul odour, despite the city having roughly just one public toilet for every 30,000 residents. The findings renewed calls for urgent sanitation infrastructure and management reforms.

Citywide: Namma Metro Phase 1 & Phase 2 (BMRCL) · Metro station

Namma Metro Land-Cost Overrun

A CAG report tabled in August 2026 found that "improper estimation of land requirements," combined with prolonged delays in land acquisition, inflated Namma Metro's Phase 1 and 2 costs by over ₹6,600 crore. It also found BMRCL posted continuous cash losses from 2013-14 to 2021-22 and remains dependent on state government support to service its debt, with actual ridership falling well short of projections used to justify the heavy-metro design.

NH-44 Hosur Road, Attibele

A section of the busy Bengaluru-Hosur stretch of National Highway 44 near Attibele caved in on February 4, 2026, opening a large crater in the carriageway and crippling traffic on one of the city's key routes toward Tamil Nadu. The collapse forced long detours and hours of gridlock on the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor.
