Bengaluru Public Toilets

Blunderlust rating★★★★★ 3.5 / 5 · 282 reviews⌖ Citywide (142 public toilets audited), BengaluruEntry #01 in Bengaluru

On record

A 2026 citizen-led audit of 142 public toilets across Bengaluru found 26% non-functional, only 6 rated "very clean," and 58% with persistent foul odour, despite the city having roughly just one public toilet for every 30,000 residents. The findings renewed calls for urgent sanitation infrastructure and management reforms.

The official record states: "Not specified (no detailed GBA rebuttal was cited in reporting)."

“A hundred and forty-two toilets audited, six of them clean. The arithmetic is doing the complaining.”— Blunderlust Editorial Desk

“One public toilet for every thirty thousand people, and one in four of those does not work. Plan your day accordingly.”
RK R. Kumar · Bengaluru★★★★★
“Volunteers walked a hundred and forty-two of these and found six they would call clean. That is the good news.”
SP S. Patel · Bengaluru★★★★★
“Fifty-eight percent had a smell you could locate from the road. No audit was strictly necessary for that part.”

Major Arterial Road, Kadabagere

A newly built ₹500-crore stretch of Bengaluru's Major Arterial Road near Kadabagere developed multiple large sinkholes across a 20-metre stretch just days before its scheduled inauguration on June 27, 2026. A viral video showed gaping craters on the still-uninaugurated road, which remained under contractor control and had not yet been formally handed over to the BDA.

Citywide: Namma Metro Phase 1 & Phase 2 (BMRCL) · Metro station

Namma Metro Land-Cost Overrun

A CAG report tabled in August 2026 found that "improper estimation of land requirements," combined with prolonged delays in land acquisition, inflated Namma Metro's Phase 1 and 2 costs by over ₹6,600 crore. It also found BMRCL posted continuous cash losses from 2013-14 to 2021-22 and remains dependent on state government support to service its debt, with actual ridership falling well short of projections used to justify the heavy-metro design.

NH-44 Hosur Road, Attibele

A section of the busy Bengaluru-Hosur stretch of National Highway 44 near Attibele caved in on February 4, 2026, opening a large crater in the carriageway and crippling traffic on one of the city's key routes toward Tamil Nadu. The collapse forced long detours and hours of gridlock on the Bengaluru-Hosur corridor.
