4 public-works wonders, catalogued in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh — every entry sourced from news reports, RTI replies and civic archives.
Bhopal has spent no small sum on attractions of unmatched ambition. Below, ranked as filed, are the public-works entries every visitor should know about before their next trip through the city. Whichever route you take, the guide covers what to see, its current status, and roughly how much it cost the public to build.

Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Setu (Ambedkar Flyover)
Bhopal's longest flyover was inaugurated in January 2025; a quality inspection a week later found unsatisfactory riding-surface finishing and excessive expansion-joint corrosion. By August 2026 the asphalt layer had begun peeling with reinforcement rods exposed.
Bhopal BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit) Corridor
The dedicated 24km bus corridor launched in 2013 recorded 121 accidents and 21 fatalities between 2016-2018, worsened congestion in adjoining lanes despite its own underuse, and hurt local businesses; years of pressure eventually led authorities to plan dismantling stretches.

Smart City Mission Bhopal — "No Visible Development"
Nearly a decade after Bhopal was selected under India's Smart City Mission, residents, local leaders and journalists report little to no visible development on the ground, prompting demands for a high-level probe.

Aishbagh ROB — Bridge With a 90-Degree Turn
The 648-metre, 8.5-metre-wide road-over-bridge was built with an abrupt L-shaped, sharp ~90-degree (later measured at 118-119 degrees) turn, which went viral as "inherently dangerous." After massive public backlash, Indian Railways agreed to transfer extra land so PWD could re-profile the curve for a gentler turn, adding roughly 3 feet of carriageway width; the original construction agency and design consultant were blacklisted.

What is the number one place to see in Bhopal?
Our editors rank by a mix of visitor rating and sheer audacity. Scroll the list below — it's ordered as filed, oldest first.
Are these attractions safe to visit?
Define 'safe'. Daylight visits are advised. Maintain distance from open manholes, leaning structures, and anything under active repair. We accept no liability; neither does anyone else, which is rather the theme.
How much did these projects cost?
Where public figures exist, they're listed on each attraction's page, sourced from tenders, budgets and RTI replies. Several projects have no publicly disclosed final cost — that's noted too.
Can I suggest an attraction for this guide?
