Vijayawada Junction Railway Station Redevelopment: Tender Failure
Indian Railways' plan to redevelop Vijayawada Junction (meant to handle roughly 20,000 passengers at peak hour with new terminals, expanded foot overbridges, multi-level parking and renovated platforms) drew a "muted response from private developers" under its design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) public-private-partnership model, forcing the Rail Land Development Authority to prepare and reissue fresh bids. The weak bidder interest reflects the difficulty of attracting private capital to the government's PPP station redevelopment model even for a major junction station.
Kanaka Durga Flyover: Four Years Late, Cost Nearly Doubled
Sanctioned in 2014 with a 2016 deadline, Andhra Pradesh's longest flyover (2.6 km, spanning the Krishna River, Prakasam Barrage and Buckingham Canal) missed repeated revised deadlines and was finally opened only in October 2020, four years late, after its cost nearly doubled. An extra ₹100 crore was spent just on shifting drinking-water pipelines for land acquisition along the route.
