A portion of Tonk Road collapsed into a roughly 20-foot-deep sinkhole in July 2026, one of several similar failures across the city caused by inadequately filled trenches dug for the Torrent Gas pipeline project. Rainfall repeatedly washed away the loose fill material used to close these trenches, exposing dangerous gaps and forcing repeated emergency repairs across multiple neighborhoods.
The official record states: "JMC Malviya Nagar Zone XEN Madan Mohan Sharma said "there is a 90% possibility that the sinkhole developed because of the gas pipeline work"; JDA called the gas pipeline work "a centrally approved project" in its final phase."
