On record

Built by Assam PWD as Guwahati's 10th foot overbridge, the Paltan Bazar structure was flagged by local media and residents as poorly planned and of doubtful utility even before its scheduled inauguration. Critics questioned why a costly overbridge was needed at this specific junction given actual pedestrian movement patterns.

The official record states: "Not specified"

“Stood by the police station counting pedestrians who crossed at road level. I lost count; the overbridge did not.”
ZM Z. Merchant · Guwahati★★★★★
“It is clean, well lit and entirely surplus, which makes it the best-maintained overbridge in the city.”

Six Mile Flyover: Pillar Failure Over a Decade Later

Built by Kolkata-based Simplex and opened in 2009, this 1.65 km flyover developed an expansion-joint problem at pillar no. 2 in 2023 (₹2 crore repair) and then cracks in pillar no. 4 in late 2024, with engineers concluding "the pillar had failed." Assam PWD had to install temporary load-distribution supports and called in IIT-Guwahati and RITES to test the structure's design, construction and concrete quality more than a decade after its defect-liability period had lapsed.

Adabari Bus Station: Once a Lifeline, Now Overgrown With Grass

Once the lifeline bus station connecting Guwahati to Lower Assam, Adabari was left to decay after services were shifted to the ISBT and Khanapara without matching infrastructure being built at the new sites. As of December 2025 the once-bustling terminal was reported "overgrown with grass and marked by silence," with only occasional vehicle repairs and a single bus still operating from the area.

Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), citywide

Multiple foot overbridges built across Guwahati sit in a "dismal state," poorly maintained and largely avoided by pedestrians who prefer crossing roads directly at grade.
