A 60-foot iron foot overbridge spanning a drainage channel in Roop Nagar collapsed on the morning of March 17, 2026, sending a roughly 50-year-old woman into the nala below; she later died, and her body was recovered by Delhi Fire Service and NDRF teams after an extensive search.
New Delhi Railway Station: Stampede
A crowd crush on the general-ticket platforms of New Delhi Railway Station on the night of February 15-16, 2025 killed at least 18 people, including children, and injured many more amid a surge of Maha Kumbh-bound passengers, overcrowded footbridges, and last-minute platform changes. The tragedy exposed the station's inadequate crowd-handling infrastructure despite it being India's busiest station, handling roughly 400 trains and 450,000 footfalls daily.
New Delhi Railway Station Redevelopment: Cost Collapse and Repeated Failed Tenders
India's flagship New Delhi station redevelopment has gone through repeated tender failures since 2021 because bidders quoted far higher prices than the government's allotted budget, forcing the Rail Land Development Authority to shrink the scope of work and break the project into smaller tenders multiple times. As of late 2024 the project cost had been slashed by roughly 84% from its original estimate with no fixed completion date, even though the station handles about 400 trains and 450,000 passengers daily.
Sarai Kale Khan ISBT Revamp
Sanctioned in 2008 to redevelop Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan ISBT into a modern multimodal hub, the project has been repeatedly derailed: first by building-height restrictions near Humayun's Tomb and Metro Phase III works, then by NCRTC's decision to build an elevated (rather than underground) Delhi-Meerut RRTS station on the same site, forcing a fresh Detailed Project Report and all 11 approvals to be sought again. Meanwhile a 2024 investigative report found the existing terminal, serving over 50,000 daily passengers, riddled with broken seating, non-functional fans, contaminated water points, and a platform illegally used as a police parking lot.

Delhi's iconic cable-stayed bridge took 14 years to complete against a 4-year target, marred by fatal construction accidents, cable-stay failures, and contractor disputes, with the budget ballooning several times over.
Delhi BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) corridor
Delhi's first Bus Rapid Transit corridor was blamed for worsening congestion for private vehicles and was dismantled by the Delhi government in 2016 after years of controversy, PILs, and court battles.

Nathu Colony Chowk Flyover: Hidden Structural Weakness and CBI Probe
Built in 2015, the flyover was shut to heavy vehicles for two years after visible structural weaknesses appeared, with a consultant's defect report left pending since 2021 and no internal inquiry conducted despite officials' awareness of the problem. In November 2024 the Delhi High Court, hearing a PIL by a BJP MLA, ordered a CBI probe after a bureaucratic standoff between PWD and TTDC over ₹8 crore in unpaid dues held up repairs.
