Amritsar's Stalled Bypass-Road Flyovers
Multiple flyovers on Amritsar's bypass road have remained incomplete years past deadline, turning the bypass into a routine accident zone due to poor visibility and narrow construction-zone passages; MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla called them "symbols of administrative neglect" in the Lok Sabha.
Daburji Flyover
The flyover deteriorated to the point former Improvement Trust chairman Dinesh Bassi publicly warned it "may collapse," alleging substandard contractor work and demanding an FIR and high-level inquiry; it was also built without a service lane.
Amritsar International Airport: Storm Ceiling Collapse
On the night of April 19, 2018, a thunderstorm with high-velocity winds and morning rain caused extensive structural damage to the international airport's main terminal building: the false ceiling collapsed in multiple areas of the main hall, air-pressure imbalances damaged the arrival area near the VIP lounge and immigration section, and glass windows shattered at the restaurant, front gate, and entry gate. No injuries or financial loss to passengers were reported, and airport authorities began repair work immediately afterward.
Saragarhi Multi-Storey Parking Complex: Neglected 300m From the Golden Temple
Built barely 300 metres from the Golden Temple to serve pilgrims and tourists, the five-storey Saragarhi parking complex has non-functional lifts, no potable water, no CCTV, no fire-safety systems and poor sanitation despite charging ₹100 per car. Activists say the city's only central multi-storey parking facility collects daily revenue while failing to provide basic amenities.
