On record
A roughly 150-year-old bridge built in 1874 by the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway company, closed to traffic since 2021 after cracks were found in its pillars, saw a portion between two pillars collapse into the Ganga in the early hours of November 26, 2024. No casualties occurred because the bridge had already been closed, and authorities began demolishing the remaining unsafe sections.
The official record states: "The state Bridge Corporation had already declared the bridge "unsafe" and "unfit for use" after inspections found large cracks in multiple pillars; officials cited its age and structural deterioration as the cause of the eventual collapse."

“Built in 1874, closed in 2021, and dropped into the Ganga in 2024 while everyone waited for a plan.”
“Nobody was hurt because nobody had been allowed on it for three years, which is the safety measure standing in for a replacement.”
“The corporation had already declared it unfit. The span between pillars nine and ten agreed, eventually.”
