The flyover has been redesigned twice: an original Sector 39–Khanpur alignment was shelved, as was a second alignment, after Phase VI residents and a Gurdwara committee protested planned demolitions; a third mixed elevated/surface design pushed the project years past its 2018 target, with contractor L&T claiming ~₹1 crore/month in losses.
The official record states: "NHAI attributed the redesigns to public protests against demolishing a Gurdwara-linked structure and homes in Phase VI, Mohali."
