A 200-foot, 25-year-old Bailey bridge connecting the two halves of Lachung village and linking it to Katao and Sharchok villages collapsed on January 5, 2025 when an overloaded supply-laden vehicle attempted to cross, severing road connectivity (only a footbridge remained).
The official record states: "District Collector said "the bridge was very old and it collapsed when an overloaded vehicle...was crossing over," pointing to age and lack of load-restriction enforcement."
