On record

The 296-km Bundelkhand Expressway, inaugurated by PM Modi on July 16, 2022, developed one-and-a-half-foot-deep potholes and caved in at Chiriya Salempur just five days later after rain, damaging two cars and a motorcycle. Opposition leaders, including BJP MP Varun Gandhi, demanded strict action over the construction quality of the flagship project.

The official record states: "UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority spokesperson Durgesh Upadhyay said the potholes formed "due to rains" and were repaired immediately before reopening."

“Five days after the Prime Minister opened it, a ₹14,850-crore expressway had potholes a foot and a half deep.”— Blunderlust Editorial Desk
