On record

A decades-old bridge that had just reopened in May 2025 after nearly two years of repair work collapsed again barely a month later, on June 17-18, 2025, sending two heavily loaded trucks into the Harang river below and severing a key Assam-Meghalaya connectivity route. Locals alleged corruption in the recently completed repair work.

The official record states: "The state government ordered an enquiry into the causes of the collapse; officials pointed informally to overloaded trucks crossing the freshly repaired structure."

“Two years of repairs, one month of service, two trucks in the river.”— Blunderlust Editorial Desk
