Sensory Park for Divyang Children: Rusting and Crumbling — photo 1

On record

Built by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation as a dedicated sensory play space for children with disabilities, the park's swings and specialised equipment have rusted and deteriorated from prolonged sun, rain and dust exposure, trees have been uprooted, vegetation has overgrown, and the gate is now frequently found locked, limiting access for the very children it was meant to serve.

The official record states: "Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das: "We have engaged self-help groups and resident welfare associations to maintain parks under BMC [with supervisors monitoring periodically].""

“Built for disabled children in 2022, and already too rusted for them to use. The sun and rain were not consulted.”— Blunderlust Editorial Desk

Bhubaneswar-Puri Road Cave-Ins

On August 2, 2026, a section of the Garage Square-Ravi Talkies road in Bhubaneswar suddenly caved in, leaving a 5-6-foot-deep crater that a motorcyclist narrowly escaped, while the same day the ₹22-crore, 10-km Balanga-Haripur road near Deuli village in Puri collapsed under a sand-laden truck, overturning it.

Hanspal Flyover: Three-Year Delay on an Accident-Prone Stretch

Construction of this 500-metre, six-lane flyover on the accident-prone Hanspal stretch of NH-16 began around 2020 but dragged on for roughly 3-5 years past its original schedule due to "technical issues and contractor problems," forcing commuters between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to endure a chronic bottleneck. It was finally inaugurated only on 21 January 2025.

Fatal Collapse — 2 dead
Bomikhal · Flyover

Bomikhal flyover ("bridge to nowhere")

Meant to be finished within 2 years of its 2012 start, the flyover remained unfinished more than 6 years later after a mid-project design change (from an L-shape to a T-shape) drove massive cost overruns; two people died in separate structural-collapse incidents during construction.
