A safety review ordered after the July 2025 Gambhira Bridge collapse found deteriorated elastomeric bearings across 89 spans of three key Ahmedabad river bridges (38 spans on Gandhi Bridge, 48 on Sardar Bridge and 3 on Parikshitlal Majmudar Bridge), prompting a ₹21.55 crore emergency repair sanction. The review followed an August 2024 AMC audit that had already found 75% of 70 inspected bridges/flyovers citywide defective.
The official record states: "AMC said the repairs were mandated as a precaution following the Gambhira Bridge collapse, and expanded the incumbent Ellis Bridge contractor's scope to cover them "due to lack of active tenders for this work category.""
